Chantal Brockman close to the 22km finish
Lake Manchester was full to the brim this year, with cool misty weather for running and sunshine afterwards. The weather held out after the thick morning fog lifted to reveal a beautiful day that proves once again that winter in Brisbane is truly wonderful.
A good day had by all with 226 runners finishing their distances; there was an excellent crowd of supporters and spectators too, bringing the runners home. First off at 8am was the long course, twenty two testing kilometres up beside the lake and around the remote hill at the far end, complete with four river crossings. This year’s clear winner was Ben Duffus in a record time of 1:39:04, 12 minutes up on James Flittner in 1:50:57, then Amiel Boullemant in 1:52:14. First woman home was Hube Wichers, well known on the national mountain running scene, in a new record time of 1:58:18 with a clear lead back to Rina Hill in 2:10:43 and Narelle Coutts in 2:13:15.
On the short course both men’s and women’s winners shone, with Caine Warburton setting the standard on the new 5km course in 20:55 and Gabby Wehr aged just 12 first woman for the third year in a row in 22:26. Nathan Powell (21:15) and Boston Nugent (21:47) placed second and third among the men, and Richelle Hill (22:45) and Eliza Buzacott-Speer (25:08) were the second and third women over the 5km course.

A big thanks to our TRAQ volunteers on and before the day; Annette Cubitt, Andrew Rowlands, Sharon & Tony Weir, Marita Eisler, Andrew Barron, Ian Javes, Guy and Alison Mcleavy, Chris Glover, Paul Wynne, Chantal Brockman, Nic Moloney and Rob Ware. Without them we wouldn’t be able to have events like this in Queensland.
Thanks for joining us and hope to see you at the Lake again. It’s a great place for a training run come picnic – Greg Waite and Andrew Rowlands, organisers
PS: A very special thanks to Greg Waite, who without your help and guidance over the last couple of years, I wouldn’t be able to know what I know so that I can assist you all next year to have a fun run without having to worry about where you will end up – Andrew Rowlands
