Pinnacles Classic – Sunday 8th April. Gold Creek Reservoir

Enter here. Follow our Facebook page for announcements.

The Pinnacles Classic is the race where the hills feel like mountains!

Many years ago the legendary Peter Holles from the Brookfield Runners initiated this off-road race along the tough course around the Gold Creek Reservoir. The course is 18km long and leads you over 18 serious hills.

Starting life as a small scale friendly race, with a sausage and a beer at the end to refuel the legs, this run has grown into a popular hit-out to test the fitness of locals and the not so locals.

Every odd year the race is run anti-clockwise, every even year the race is run clockwise.  So, this year we’ll take off up the hills to the left of the GC Reservoir.

Date and Time: Sunday 8 April, start at 7am, slow wave starts 6:40.  Race briefings are 10mins before the starts. Be there at least 30mins before your start to pick up your bib and nominate your start time.

Car-pooling required: Options are available during the registration process.

Course: The course is 18km long over serious hills in Brisbane Forest Park (d’Aguillar National Park), at the end of Gold Creek Road Brookfield, starting from Gold Creek Reservoir.  It is a race for seriously fit runners. See the map and course profile further below.

Catering: The entry fee includes a BBQ afterwards, but there will be also fruit, water and (sports) drink to replenish what you have left out there on the trails. Thanks to The Gap State High School students who are raising funds for the Kokoda Youth Foundation to organise the catering for this event! Coffees are available too, but they are for you to purchase separately.

Registration and cost: For participants 18 years and older: entries close 2pm 7 April with 150 entrants allowed. Entry cost $35 for TRAQ members and $42.50 for non-members.

TRAQ Membership details here. TRAQ has affiliated with Queensland Athletics (QA). Annual Membership fees are $17.50 per individual. The registration year runs from1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018.

Register now, but nominate your wave on the day when you pick up your race bib from the registration table at least 30min before your start.  Race briefing takes place 10min before the start of each wave.  Main wave (2) starts at 7am, very slow wave (1) starts at 6:40am.

Please note that the winners and placings are taken from wave 2!

Fuel and Nutrition: you need to carry at least 750mls of fluids. There is one checkpoint halfway along the course with water, electrolytes and lollies.

I hope you will have great fun running this great course, and I am looking forward sharing a laugh and something to eat/drink with you at the finish line!

What you need to know:

Course
It is a tough 22km with 1200m of climb and 650m of descent. Make sure you carry 1 litre of water.

It is a beautiful run that leads from Cedar Flats via the top of Northbrook Mountain and England Creek to the rainforest at the top of Mount Glorious, finishing at the clearing opposite the Maiala picnic area.

Description: from Cedar Flats valley climb east up the ridgeline firebreak, it is initially steep, but then runnable. Turn left at the first junction, then right at Northbrook Mountain junction and go down to England Creek (midpoint and manned check point) then there is a continuous 600m climb up to the top of Mount Glorious.

When you are about to reach the top, turn left onto the historic stone-lined western ridge single trail through the rainforest. There are a few stone stairs you will climb to reach the Western Window from which it is a flat run to the finish at the clearing opposite Maiala Park. Also, see map and profile below. Membership 2017/18

Hello all,

2017/18 Membership open now. Link Here

TRAQ’s new membership year starts on the first of October 2017, so you are able to sign up now and get the membership discount entry fee for all of our events up to October next year.

The Committee decided to keep the same low membership fee that we asked for during the first nine months of this year. Once again we joined up with Qld Athletics and QRun to ensure that we are part of the bigger running family and because this affiliation allows us to maintain very low membership fees, as we are covered by their insurance.

The basic TRAQ membership fee is $17.50, the TRAQ membership fee is $7.50 if you already are a 2017/2018 member of Qld Athletics and TRAQ Volunteer (no running!) membership is free. If you are considering participating in more events of Qld Athletics (Track and Field and Cross Country) you can now become a TRAQ Dual Member for $62.50 . This is a nice offer by Qld Athletics to us because of our special ‘State Body’ Status, which basically gives the Traditional Qld Athletics Membership at 1/2 price. These are the most popular memberships, contact me if you would like to become a TRAQ member with a different Qld Athletics membership.

We’d love to have your company again for all of our events!

Kind regards
Hubertien

Camp Mountain Race Report and Results

2017 Camp Mountain Race

See the results HERE

Thanks to all you competitors and volunteers who made the first Camp Mountain Challenge organised by TRAQ a great morning. The Photo Album can be viewed via the TRAQ Facebook page.

Congratulations to all of the runners! The weather was perfect; nice, crisp and the wind subsided overnight, which made for pleasant race conditions.

It’s a little shorter and sharper than our usual TRAQ races, but there was the option to do the ‘longer, easy’ 13.3km race, which quite a number of people opted for.

We also incorporated kids’ races and it was great to see you brave speedy kids out there.

As the challenge incorporated the Queensland Mountain Running Championships, there were young and older age category state medals to be won. Whether you received a medal or not, all could be proud of the achievements in one of the tougher athletics events.

Queensland State Mountain Running Champions are: David Barton (35:27) and Åshild Krige (39:15): Congratulations!

Different organisations joined forces to make this event happen. Thanks to Queensland Athletics for your support from the office, the officials and volunteers (Don, the Fletcher family, Dick, Rick, Irene, Nick and Benita).

Thanks to WICEN (Robert and Crew) for your ongoing event support by providing radio communications, thanks to The Walton Bridge Girl Guides (Faye and crew) for helping with the catering,

Thanks to our TRAQ volunteers: Joris, Pete, Julie, Leland, Mark, Greg, Kate, Oscar and Lani, Greg, Carolyn and the junior race marshals. Awesome job; great to work with you!

Last but not least, thanks Tim, Laura and Maddy from The Trail Co. for your ongoing support of our races!
